Believe me when I say I still struggle to find modest pieces when I shop , even when i have grown up wearing modest clothes.
Finding modest pieces online and offline is such a struggle but with years of experience i have learned some tricks you can apply to shop modestly both online and offline!
You find the perfect blouse but turns out the back is sheer or there is a slit oh boy! the number of times I thought I had found the perfect dress and turned it around to find that there is a slit all the way upto the thigh.
If you are thrift shopping on the lanes and you spot a cute dress, but with so much variation in size are you 10 or 12 or 35? Alas you had to let go of that dress but you know you wanted that dress badly!
Fret not! Through years of Thrifting and Diy-ing unmodest clothes to work for me I have come up with the absolute best cheat sheet!
This is literally their job, why put in hardwork and go through all the trouble when they have gone through it all and are presenting it to you on a silver platter?.
Follow their accounts on Instagram and take note of where they bought a particular dress or outfit from. And if you have been searching something similar then there you have it.
You have got your self a cute outfit without having to go through all the trouble.
One of my favourite one is Leena Snoubar from withloveleena.com
In the rage of modest fashion who hasn’t seen small businesses coming up on Instagram and putting out their brand?
With a quick glance at their page you can figure out if what you want is what they can offer you or not.
Most likely the fashion bloggers have lead you to their page so you will most probably end up finding what you like easily without any hassle.
3.Know your measurements:
Make a post it note or note it down on you phone all your body measurements inches, cm , all the possible metrics so that you just have to look through their sizing chart once and you know if this is too short for you or way too tight to be modest This is another trick that helps a lot
4.Check on page reviews
The onpage reviews i.e: how many times have u been on shein or any other website and found a modest piece but something just seems wrong?
For me almost always! My first instinct is to check the reviews and shien mostly has picture review where helpful customers post their visual reviews for you to confirm your doubts.
Its better to read all the reviews than make your bucks go down the drain.
5.Check for the options
LOOSE FIT: I have found that most brands have an option or some pieces that are especially marketed as loose fitted and those are the one you grab and run.. eerr check out fast with.
TALL:If you are shopping internationally most likely you have seen this option is a blessing in disguise for those who haven’t smacked their head yet, this works like a magic editing tool in making your favourite jeans and pants that are way too cropped turn into the perfect length and your maxi dress to actually reach longer to cover your ankles.
I repeat NEVER order in bulk from a website or online shop if you have not tried their products before,
Yes, there is a return option for most services now but why go through the hassle instead if you end up liking it then you just have to reorder.
Now, for my people who won’t buy unless they have touched it physically and have literally laid their eyes on it.
Here are some tips for you:
This might seem like a no brainer but most the time we just grab it see the usual size yeah, I know my h&m size is m no need to try this one.
But it ends up hugging on you arms or is way to tight on a certain part of you body, not only every dress is cut in a different way but so are our bodies.
Make it a rule to never buy without trying it out.
Right off the bat let the sales person or who ever might be helping you at the store that you are looking for a modest fit or that these are your particulars.
You waste less time and you end up actually finding what you are looking for
I know with this is you are like what?
Hear me out, you take your clothes be it a top or a pant which fits you perfectly lay it out on a the bed or table then measure the length or the width with your palm stretched as in from one little finger to another this gives you a roungh measurement of your clothes.
This works so well if you are street shopping and there is no trial rooms or a standard size to go with.
But you know that the length of your perfect top is 4 handspan right off the hanger you can measure the length and guess if it is the correct size for you or not.
4.Carry a small measuring tape:
This again works for street shopping very well, and if you ask the salesperson they usually let you check the measurement and of course with this you have to know your measurements really well.
